lemon juice works good on silver jewelry
For gold, soak it in 1/2 ammonia and 1/2 water, then rinse. You can use a soft unused toothbrush if necessary but be gentle and make sure there are no loose stones before beginning. Dry with a lint-free cloth. If you don’t have ammonia, you could use rubbing alcohol, as long as there aren’t any pearls. You could also soak in water with a little bit of dish detergent.
For silver, coat the silver with toothpaste, then run it under warm water, work it into a foam, and rinse it off. For stubborn stains or intricate grooves, use the soft-bristled toothbrush.
