cleaning sterling silver?
Yahoo Hates Personalities asked:
i have a floating heart necklace from hot diamonds in sterling silver. it’s plated rhodium and is starting to scratch and not be as shiny as it was when it was new.
any ideas for cleaning/polishing it?
i already tried sterling silver jewelry cleaner and it didn’t do much.
i forgot to mention that i have tried toothpaste and didn’t notice a difference. i’ve heard about baking soda. does it work?

try toothpaste
some jewelery stores have a polishing cloth those work well you just gotta use some elbow grease
i use toothpaste to clean my jewelry.
like put some toothpast on it then rub it with your fingers for like aminute then wash it off.
you put it in coke/pepsi for a few minutes and it gets better.
im serious. it works. my sister did it with her earrings all the time til we stopped buying coke.
Go to a jewelry store and buy a polishing cloth for silver. They don’t cost very much, and the cloth is very soft. I twill make your necklace shine beautifully. I use this cloth on all my silver jewelry.

There is an ultrasonic cleaner available on the market for jewelery and is very reasonably priced.in aus$90.I saw it advertised in a home shopping mag.they are very good and very safe to use,no damage to jewelery.your neighbourhood jewelery store should be able to help you, dont use any cleaners as these may remove some of the silver.cheers.
i am sending you this link of an article so,just check this out..
As,it would be very helpful to you:
The toothpaste with a soft toothbrush will clean it well, but if there are surface scratches, you will need to take it to a jeweler to buff polish out the scratches and possibly re-do the rhodium finish (depending on how bad/deep the scratches are).
