How do I clean sterling silver jewelry (crosses, pendants)?

jennycute201 asked:

I have read that to clean silver jewelry I need a cloth and liquid polish. Where do I get that stuff? I can’t afford anything expensive.
Any other tips / suggestions are welcome!

You can get silver cleaner just about any place. It is basically a paste you rub on a cloth and wipe onto the silver. It is really good at removing the black tarnish on silver. I know for a fact Walmart has it for a couple dollars. Almost all jewelry stores have it, but will charge more.

Toothpaste works great!! It has to be the paste though and not the gel kind. I just use an old toothbrush to scrub it and it works great.

If you go to Walmart or Target you can just get a silver polishing cloth, you really don’t need the liquid… You just rub rub rub until its shiny. you can also, in a pinch, use warm water and baking soda rub w/ a soft cloth or a lens cloth.

I have 2 ways for you if you want to go cheap.

#1- toothpaste, yes I said toothpaste! Use the white kind and an old toothbrush. This helps get on the grooves and details cleaned.

#2- get a small glass or shotglass. Put windex into it with your jewelry. (this sounds kinda nuts but) Put in microwave for only 4 SECONDS. Take out let it cool. If not shiney enough put it in again but only for about 4 seconds. Just becareful, will get very hot and plus metal is not that good for the microwave.

I use the windex way more than anything. The results are the same if I had used a polishing cloth for me!
    Good Luck
